About Me

Turkey is situated at the cross-roads of Asia and Europe, and as such Turks have always lived on historical migration routes and tradeways. Turkey is heir to the multi-cultural Ottoman Empire which had suzerainty over the bridge between East and West.

Turkish cooking draws from many cultures, diversity and the practicality required by the Turkish way of life has resulted in a cuisine with a focus on nutritious food made simply.

My adventure started when I was 21, when I left New Zealand to travel Europe with my best friend.

While in Kas, touring the Mediterranean Coast, I met a charming young Turk who invited us to drink and dine with his friends, where I got to experience Turkish hospitality. Needless to say within a year I was happily married.

I lived in Istanbul for 10 years with my now husband, and in that time I learnt a whole new style of cooking. A world of culinary delight was opened up to me. It took a while to get the hang of the language, let alone keep up with my mother in law in the kitchen, but I got there in the end.

As someone brought up on bland meat and three veg, discovering Turkish food for the first time was an amazing experience, and I want to share that experience with everyone.

I now live in the beautiful South West Rocks in New South Wales where I teach basics of Turkish Cooking.
